COMMON QUESTIONS
What should I do in the situation of a house leak?
Usually, a house leak can be anything – from leaks in the roof to leaks in the walls due to pipe leaks or anything else. The basement and attic are the two most common places where leaks take place and if the situation is too serious, then you need to evacuate.
But before any of this, you need to ensure that you are powering off all electricity supply in the house. This will save you and other people from getting shocked by electricity, which is not what you want. So, first, make sure that there is no loose wiring near the water and just evacuate the room as soon as possible and call in professionals.
Is evacuation necessary?
Speaking of evacuation, that also depends. Do you need to evacuate the entire house when there is water damage? Well, that depends too, on the severity of the damage. You want to see whether the leak is affecting only one part of your house or the entirety of it.
If the leak is only in one room that you can go without for a bit then everything is fine and you don’t need to evacuate. However, if the floors and ceiling are leaking too much, and everything is covered in water, then it’s better if you find a temporary place to stay for a while until the water damage restoration is done.
How long does restoration take?
That depends on what the damage is. If there is only a pipe leak and it’s a no big hassle, then maybe a day and that’s pretty much it. However, if there is a huge leak like a roof leak or water seeping through the floor, then it might take a couple of days to some weeks depending on how severe the damage is.
As for leaked walls, those take the longest to restore because leaked walls, if left unnoticed, will lead to structural damage and you don’t want that because that’s an accident waiting to happen.
